Our team at SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County received a call that a local school had suffered water damage affecting several hallways and many classrooms. Our crews responded and got to work. They worked to remove excess water through water extraction and setting up drying equipment like dehumidifiers to remove moisture from the air and materials and by setting air movers, to help circulate the hot dry air.

Crews performed flood cuts where the bottom 1-4 feet depending on the damage of a wall is removed so that the wet insulation inside the wall can be removed and the structure correctly dried. In addition to the drying, our crews sanitized affected materials to make sure that no bacteria would grow, no odor would linger and that it would be safe for kids once again.

Cleaning Smoke and Soot Damage in Mckay Landing

10/17/2019 (Permalink)

Gloved hand cleaning smoke damage and soot stains off of a wall. Let SERVPRO make your fire damage in Mckay Landing “Like it never even happened.”

Smoke is a mixture of gases and small particles. The small particles are also called ash, and they include soot. Soot is the collection of particles left from incomplete burning of products that contain carbon. These products include wood and coal. Smoke and soot do not destroy materials the way fire does. They leave behind greasy films and have an unpleasant odor. SERVPRO® of Broomfield/NW Adams County can clean up damage from smoke and soot in your Mckay Landing home.

Smoke moves from warmer areas to cooler areas. You will find smoke and soot damage on the ceiling above where the fire started, but you will also find damage in other places. SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County looks for damage in/on:

  • Closed-off spaces: Smoke and soot settle in cooler areas, including dresser drawers, closed closets, and wall cavities
  • Drapes and blinds. The drapes and blinds are cooler than other parts of the house. During a fire, the areas behind the drapes and blinds are cooler than the rest of the room. Remember that smoke travels to the cooler areas, leaving behind smoke and soot.
  • Outside walls and windows: Even if the fire was in the center of the room, smoke travels to the cooler areas
  • Air ducts: smoke and soot travel throughout the house

SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County investigates these areas to get a good idea of what kind of damage is in the Mckay Landing building.

SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County is independently owned and operated.

Help Protect your Property in Federal Heights by Boarding Up for a Disaster

9/27/2019 (Permalink)

The front of a building boarded up. Boarding up your property can help keep more damage from happening after a storm hits in Federal Heights.

SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County is aware of the horrific damage a storm or hurricane can leave in its wake. Boarding up before or after a storm hits in Federal Heights will be beneficial to you and your property. Unfortunately, during a storm, it is common for windows and doors to break leaving your house or office building susceptible to unwanted guests such as dogs, raccoons, cats, etc. These animals will continue tearing up what is already destroyed along with urinating and defecating, as well as leaving unwanted odors. Boarding up can also help to deter people who might want to take advantage of your disaster by stealing or vandalizing your structure.

Here are a few of the letters you will find on a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) map when facing storms:

  • D = Tropical Depression (wind speed less than 30 MPH)
  • S = Tropical Storm (wind speed between 39 MPH and 73 MPH)
  • H = Hurricane (wind speed between 74 MPH and 110 MPH)
  • M = Major Hurricane (wind speed greater than 110 MPH)

It is always better to be prepared when winds of this magnitude strike our homes and offices. These tips can help you avoid disaster, but in the event you experience wind damage or other types of damage to your property in Federal Heights, please call the professionals at SERVPRO of Broomfield/NW Adams County at 303-452-9900 and we will do all we can to make it “Like it never even happened.”
